How to downgrade from Catalina without erasing my whole computer

Hey Apple community,

I upgraded to Catalina without knowing it's going to interfere with my Steam games. Is there a way to downgrade to Mojave without having to erase my whole computer? I see that you can still access the Mac OS Mojave page on the Apple Store so I wasn't sure if it would hurt my MacBook if I installed Mojave while I currently have Catalina.

If you use time machine, backup manually anything you want to keep created since the upgrade to a separate drive, and then you "should" be able to restore from a prior backup of mojave..... be prepared to twiddle your thumbs for a while...
