Transferring music from iTunes to iPhone

Thank you for responding. I’m sorry I didn’t provide more detail. First, there is no error message when I try to drag and drop. It just won’t select or highlight my

iPhone as an option. I tried it with both my music and music I bought off of iTunes and neither one will select my phone to transfer. Although I can download the bought ones directly on my phone I can’t drag and drop them. I had no problems doing this before the library reboot. Secondly, I can’t restore from time machine as I don’t use it for backup as it has never worked properly for me. Due to this, I use external hard drives and automatically back up anytime I add music to the music file on my Mac (an option I selected in iTunes). It was from these files that I restored my library. They are the original music files so I am confused as to why this would make a difference, but apparently it does. I would be hesitant to restore it to a previous library anyway as it took me awhile to get the library back up to what I had as I lost thousands of songs. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thank you for the help. I will try syncing. I’ve always avoided syncing and done manual updates as I didn’t want my iTunes library to try and sink to my phone. I worry about doing it now as I have thousands of songs on my phone that I don’t want to delete when I sync it to my computer. I’ll look into it. Thanks again.
