Just bought a new phone, and the volume on calls is really quiet although the ringer button is on full and working correctly, how do I increase the volume on a call?

Ringer volume and conversation volume are independent of each other. Likewise, each other wired and Bluetooth sound device's volume level is independently set. You will end up with independently set volume levels for your phone's internal speaker, wired headphones, car stereo(s), BT earphones, etc.

While you are engaged in a phone call, press on the Volume Up or Volume Down button to set your desired volume. Your phone will remember this setting for future calls using this audio device.
