I have just found discovered this solution, and shared it with Apple Support. Here are the steps.

1-Turn on magic keyboard

2-Make sure your Magic (bluetooth) keyboard is synched with your iPad (Settings/Bluetooth).

3- Open Settings / General/ Keyboard. You will see "Keyboards" (your languages you have downloaded to your iPad), and "Hardware Keyboard" (This your magic keyboard, and this menu choice will only display when there is a magic keyboard connected)

4-Click the ">" next to the Hardware Keyboard menu item

5-You now see a list of your languages/keyboards….. for me it is English and Portuguese.

Your default language is probably listed first… e.g. English (US)………………US. Your second language In my case Portuguese) may look like this:

Portuguese (Portugal)………………………..Automatic >

6 - you will need to click on the ">" next to "Automatic" and choice the actual language from the list…in my case Portuguese

7-Once you are done click the back arrow and your choice should look something like:

Portuguese (Portugal)……………………….Portuguese >

8- Clap your hands, you are done.
