Deleted mail cannot be recovered from trash

Since installing Catalina, I cannot recover a mail message after it is deleted. Before Catalina, I was always able to go the Undo" button in the menu and the message would return to the inbox, junk, etc., but now it seems to be permanently deleted as soon as you hit the "delete" button -- it cannot be found in the trash, either, because there seems to be no way to view the trash. Any answers here???? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Barbara!

I understand that when you delete email on your Mac, it seems to disappear completely. I'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

From the Mail app go to Preferences > Accounts and select the account causing the conflict. There, select the Mailbox Behaviors tab and make sure the trash mailbox is set to "On My Mac".
