my MacBook pro won't install the mac 10.14.6 update.
It either says it has timed out, or an error has occurred.

Is this the full installer or just point update?
If you are currently running 10.14.x the Point up date can be downloaded directly. If it still gives you an issue, then reboot into Safe Boot mode (hold shift key) and login—from this environment try again installing the stand alone combo.
