I installed a new hard drive on my MacBook Pro 2010. When booting up using control - option - R, I get a flashing folder with a question mark. Please help! Trying to save this old Mac.

Try Command + Option + R for Internet Recovery Mode.
If this does not work, then reinstall the old hard drive to see if you can boot into local Recovery Mode using Command + R. If so, then connect the new drive externally and install macOS to the external drive after first erasing it as GUID partition and MacOS Extended (Journaled).
Another option is to create a bootable macOS USB installer:

I am able to get into “install macOS high Sierra” screen but not able to chose the disk to install macOS on. None are listed.
I have successfully installed a new hard drive with everyone’s help. Thank you!
