I have an IMac late 2013 running Catalina 10.15.1 , 16 RAM, runs very slowly. I have plenty of HD space as I use external HDs to store photos etc. I don't have an antivirus installed. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make it run faster. It has really been dragging lately. Takes forever to open a program etc. Thanks for your help in advance. tablerockmel

Hi. It is an 21.5 inch mac with Antivirus Bitdefender for Mac installed. Even before the antivirus was installed it took a long time to open applications such as Adobe PDF, Pages, Numbers, etc. Also Outlook for Mac takes forever to open. Will upgrading to OS Catalina solve this issue. Also the cordless mouse loses connection abruptly and starts only after right clicking it. Thanks for the help.

Mac OS is extremely secure and does not benefit nor does it require any third party antivirus apps. Installing Bitdefender is creating far more problems that it would ever solve. Please locate the developers uninstall instructions and please uninstall. Then restart the computer in Safe Mode and then restart normally and I am pretty sure your computer will run as new.

All Mac OS needs to remain secure for it's life is to keep Mac OS up-to-date and otherwise left alone. NEVER EVER install any antivirus, cleaning or any other third party "maintenance" apps unless you come to these forums and speak to someone knowledgable
