how can i get a balance on a itunes gift card?

iTunes gift cards cannot have partial balance. They either have the amount stated on the card, or 0.

Once redeemed onto an Apple ID, the iTunes gift card is empty. There's no way to tell whether its been redeemed already except by trying to redeem it.
