I just purchased a new iPad. It is only asking for a 4 digit passcode. My other devices have a 6 digit passcode. I have downloaded the newest software.

You can choose between a 4 digit or 6 digit passcode when you set the device up. Have you forgotten your passcode? If so then please refer to the following Apple Support documents.
