The apple + tv remote

The apple + tv remote was switching the tv off and on without any problems. But, now by switching the tv off, the tv screen turns black but the tv is not turned off. I have to use the tv remote to turn the tv complete off. The same applies for turning the tv on. Once the tv is turned on, the apple remote works fine. Except for turning the tv off and on.

What might be the issue?

Hello,

Apple TV uses a technology called HDMI-CEC which is what allows Apple TV to power a TV on and off (as well as some other things). Older TV models do not fully support HDMI-CEC which would explain why you can turn your TV on but cannot turn it off.
