can a imac 2011 or later be updated to the newest OX?

can EL Capitan 10.11.6 be updated to the newest OX?

No, it cannot go beyond 10.13.6. In order to run Catalina (10.15.x) Macs must have GPUs that support Metal which is a graphics capability. This did not become available on iMacs until the 2012 models. And if you are wondering, no a 2011 cannot be upgraded to support Metal and no there is no work around. If you want or need 10.15.x then it is time to invest in a new iMac or newer Mac.
