Reading list column

All of a sudden, every time I open Safari, my reading list appears on the left side of my MacBook Air. It takes several tries to click on the edge and move it out of the way. Is there a setting that will keep it from opening?

Have you tried Safari/View/Hide Reading List Sidebar? Then quit/reopen Safari and test?
