Photos library too large

I have about 5,000 photos on my macbook pro, taking up around 21 GB of space according to the Photos app. When I look at the Photos library on Finder, the ”originals” folder is indeed 21GB but the ”masters” folder is 72 GB. The total size of the library is almost 100GB ?? Is there something I can do to fix this or make the library smaller?

Photo edits and related activities add substantially to the storage requirements.

Repair?

Offload and rebuild it all, then?

Ten pounds of photos in a five pound bag, eh?

Prolly easier to upgrade the storage, if your particular (unspecified) Mac allows it.

Which Mac?

The other available options are to start deleting photos, and to offload photos to a larger storage device.

Yeah; 100 GB used to be a lot.

Now?

I’m routinely working with 5 and 8 terabyte disks, and those aren’t big, expensive disks.
