Music automatically being trimmed

Im trying to add background music to a video I made, but every time I add it in, iMovie automatically trims it. I want the song to play from the beginning, and I am not being allowed to do that. Instead it decides to play the song about 30 seconds in and leaves a huge space of nothing and empty audio before that. What's the deal?

You probably have the “lower volume of other clips” box checked. Select the video clip that is above the audio clip, and then click on the loudspeaker icon in the tool bar in the upper right of your screen. You’ll see the box there. Uncheck it if it is checked.
