Lost files

Hi. About a year ago, there was a change in the ICLOUD. Suddenly I found that I was saving older files in the Recent File folder as opposed to my Document File folder. At first, I thought that it was a duplicate save, so I deleted some of the files in the Recent folder not realizing that they were no longer in my Document Folder. I was devasted because I lost files that were SOOO important to me. Is there any way to retrive them?

From what you say, I don't think photos are involved. But, if so, then see this read too:
