I just bought a mid 2012 i5 13" macbook pro. Under About This Mac (and everywhere else in software) it is labeled as a 2012 macbook pro, but on the bottom case it says 2010. The serial number in software and on the bottom case also match. All of the screws look to be in perfect condition as well. I would just like to know why this is like this / what would be the cause of this discrepancy?

Im going to guess that something happened to the bottom case so they replaced it with one from a 2010 that had the serial number removed then replaced with the one from this laptop.

Craigslist... They let me look at it pretty thoroughly. It all seems to check out, even the serial number. They also wiped the HDD so whatever the new OS is picking up has to be what it really is.
Forget about this, I just opened it up. Despite the screws looking perfect, it doesn't have the original RAM or HDD only a 500gb Hitachi HDD and 4GB of micron RAM.
Some other tear downs of this model show the same components (green instead of black ram modules) and Hitachi HDD and it says AUG-12 so I'm still not exactly sure whats going on here.
