Using external HD with iMac

Im using my iMac with iCloud Drive only.

Also 2 time machine for local backups.

I don't want to use the internal iMac's HD .

Is it hard to add a new external ssd HD to use for local data in addition to the present situation ?

Thanks

Hi there!

Using an external hard drive is pretty straight forward & easy.

  1. Plug the hard drive into the Mac using the cable that came with it. Most hard drives connect via USB, so you'll just need to plug the USB cable into an open port on your Mac. ...
  2. Check for your drive on your desktop.
  3. Open Your Launcher & Click Disk Utility.
  4. Click the Hard Drive you wish to use.
  5. Erase (This is not mandatory but it is recommended, as it will clear off any "junk" that is already on the drive.

Hope this helps!
