I cannot add my aol accounts to Apple Mail (High Sierra 10.6.3). I get an "unable to verify account information" message.
My aol password is correct, and the aol/Apple Mail integration works fine on my ipads.

OK. Finally found the solution for MacMail on High Sierra. I went to the AOL home page, logged onto the two AOL accounts I was having problems with, and went into the Security section. Then I chose "generate one-time passcode" for the older App -->MacMail, copied it, and when to MacMail Add Account. Used the one-time password, and I was in, problems solved.

You mean 10.13.6?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
Have you changed your eMail password lately?
Sorry, yes, 10.13.6.
I can't even get as far as adding an old account, so it does not show up in the Show Details button.
I may have changed my password. I am just getting back to using my MacMini after several months away.
OK, in a Browser sign into your AOL WebMail, does that work?
This frequently fails to be able to find the entry with any of the Auto setup option in Mail, but...
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Enter the part after the @sign in the search bar.
You may have duplicate or more entries in Keychain Access.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but likely old passwords interfering.
There''ll be at least 2 entries, maybe more.
The trouble is that Mac Mail almost always chooses the old Passwords if you don't change or get rid of the old ones.
Thanks for the info. I did all of the things you suggested, but I still can't sync two of my three AOL accounts with Mail.
They had been synced for years. This is very frustrating.

that should read aol account, not old account.
