Sometimes the battery doesn’t fully charge on my iPad Air third generation even when it’s plugged in all night.

Battery at 6% last night when I plugged it in. At 49% this morning after charging for 6 1/2 hours. This is a brand new iPad Air third generation.

Go to Settings > Battery > see what's using power. At a minimum, I would force close anything that may be using power, or better yet, do a forced restart on the iPad. Since you have an iPad with a home button - Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time (keep holding past swipe to shut down) until you see the Apple Logo, then let go. Once you sign back into the iPad, see if you can fully charge your iPad.

Make sure you have no background running apps that are fetching data in the background from the Internet.

Also, an iPad will charge faster with WiFi turned OFF when the iPad is not in use.

Try all of these tips and leave each tip active together.

DO NOT simply try every tip individually, expecting just one tip to be a performance “cure all”.

Many of these tips are designed to work together to help improve overall iOS/iDevice performance and battery life.

Good Luck!

I will do that. However, this is a brand new iPad 3rd generation. I had the same problem before (bought it at Costco) and they replaced it with another new one. Two in a row with the same problem leads me to believe there’s a glitch in these iPads. I did a screen share with Apple yesterday and they could find nothing wrong with the battery in diagnostics. There’s something fishy about this!

Do you power your iPad off at night when you charge it? If you do power off, try leaving it turned on and charge it that way.

I have an iPad Air 3 and it charges without issue, but I leave it turned on 99.9% of the time. have seen some people here say that if they power down, the device does not charge or charges very, very slowly. I almost never power my iOS devices down unless I am doing so for a very specific reason.

Will do. Thanks for trying to help me solve this problem. If it works, I’ll let you know.

Additionally, by the way, sometimes it does charge 100%. So I assume it’s always going to. The lesson learned is “don’t assume,” especially when you’re dealing with computers. Last night it was at 6 % when I plugged it in, turned it off, and let it charge for 6 1/2 hours. When I checked this morning it was at 49%. Other times it might be at 100%. You never know what you’re going to get! I’ve got a feeling this model is a lemon.

Don't turn it off tonight. Let it charge while it is plugged in to charge. There really is no need to power down at night.
