Several areas of Safari General preferences are grayed out, how can I fix this? I cannot set up "New windows open with" preferences, "New tabs open with" preferences or my "Homepage" preferences.

I looked at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8637822 from Nov 2018. It appears that they are suggesting I pay for an antivirus/cleaner for Mac. The other suggestions did not work. I will keep trying to find a solution, will likely be going to genius bar at the local mall.
Check System Preferences/Profiles and delete any you don’t recognize.
