Mail ending up in junk folder

I have a hotmail account. Some of the emails end up in the junk folder despite of a rule that I set in preferences. I assume my entry is wrong. What do I have to change?

If they are brown headers with "Mail thinks this is junk" message then yes it is Mail and you need to click the Not Junk icon as described in the articles.

If they are plain headers without that message then rather you must go to your Hotmail account junk whitelisting.

If like me you use Hotmail or Microsoft mail but you keep your contacts in another account like iCloud or Google, then the setting to not mark mail as junk if they are "in my contacts" will not work. In that case you need to build up a list of accepted addresses and domains in the web version of your microsoft mail account. OR copy all your contacts into your Hotmail people account.
