I have been trying to upgrade to Catalina now for over 4 months. Keep getting lost of internet. Yet the internet is still working for my other devices including a PC with windows for crying out loud.
I have checked my ISP and they confirm that all is well with my system. I have directly wired my MAC to the router and it still loads about 30+mb then drops out. Getting really disgusted here. Any one have a clue?

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Sys Prefs>Network>highlight the Interface you're using>Advanced>TCP/IP>Configure IPv4: Using DHCP.
If using Wifi, instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.
System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Bob, I am on an iMac running 10.14.6 and connecting wirelessly to a tower a mile or two away. My speed seems good and my two iMacs are on wifi with a router supplied by the ISP. The ISP has checked the down and up speeds and they are decent. I have up graded a lap top (windows unit) with no issues.
Sadly, no. I finally just gave up. The internet in our area has now become slow due to excessive use because of everyone staying home I suppose. I checked my records and I have been trying to upgrade for about as long as Catalina has been out. I have tried nights etc. but it always dumps me off at around 31 mb of download. Odd it seem that it always quits in that area.
It would help us to help you if you told us what model/year computer you have, how you are connected to the Internet, exact error messages, context, and environment.
Any progress?
