They charge the replacement value, which depends on the storage capacity. For an iPhone XS it's £1,049/£1,199/£1,399 for the 64/256/512 GB versions.

What country? In the US the deductible is $29. I understand the way that express replacement works is that they send out one paid for with a credit card, then they refund that amount (minus the deductible) once they receive the damaged device.
