iMovie cutting out audio

Hi guys. In certain clips of my project, audio cuts off at the end for some odd reason. i play the file outside of iMovie and can hear everything just fine. Does anyone know how to fix this because it seems I have tried everything from changing the video file from mp4 to .mov or adjusting the volume as well.

The audio may not be in a format that iMovie likes. iMovie likes Mp4/AAC. Try using a video converter like the free download, Handbrake, to convert the video to Mp4/AAC. Do this even if the format already is Mp4/AAC as sometimes converting even into the same format can clear up glitches.

You can get Handbrake here:

https://handbrake.fr/

Open Handbrake and do File/Open Source. In the window that appears navigate to where you video is located and click on it to choose it. Then do File/Start encoding. That should give you a clip that will play properly in iMovie.

The Mp4 and M4v formats are interchangeable. M4v is an Apple format.

All movies exported from iMovie are Mp4, except if you export using the Best Quality (pro res) setting that will give you a .mov file. If you export at Best Quality (pro res) the .mov file that you get will be a much higher bitrate than the Mp4 file, and therefore about 4x larger file size. A tad better quality. Either format is fine, depending upon your purposes. For example, if you were intending to post on the internet, you probably wouldn't want a huge file like you would get with .mov. For high quality playback and almost universal compatibility with a wide range of devices and software, Mp4 can't be beat. If you were going to do a lot of finite complex editing, maybe the .mov file would be better.
