What type of monitor to purchase to work with the MacBrook Pro?

Depending on the model numbel of your MacBook Pro, and the year it was made, probably USB-C which supports DisplayPort.

If you go to "About this Mac" you should find a rough model number that looks like this : MacBookPro XX,Y.....and if you type that rough model number in at everymac.com, it'll tell you the specs of your MacBook Pro and what type of monitor it will support. Recent models do support Thunderbolt 3 via the USB-C port. However, Thunderbolt 3 monitors, like anything Thunderbolt 3, are expensive. With the correct adapter, your MacBook will support Mini DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA (should you so desire) as well as Dual Link DVI. I should also point out, that Apple has pared down the number of ports on its MacBooks and MacBook Pro's to pretty much two. apart from a charging port, and a headphone jack. So, if you want to use Ethernet, or anything else, you're going to have to buy an adapter or a usb-C hub
