Editing/changing an icloud.com Apple ID

Hi,

I desperately need to change my Apple ID. I created a pretty embarrassing 'icloud.com' email address when I was younger and I no longer wish for my apple devices to be associated with the email address.

I have read several articles and have read the support page step by step and from what I gather, I am unable to change an @icloud.com, @mac.com or @me.com email address to a third-party email address. However, the support page does suggest that you can change it to an alias of your Apple ID address. Can anyone give me instructions on how to change my primary email to an alias please?

I have gone onto my account and have gone to edit, however there are no other email addresses showing as associated with the account. All I can do is add or delete email addresses in my 'reachable at' - this doesn't give me the option to select any of them as my primary email address though.

Any suggestions / options of what I can do would be much appreciated, as I am finding the process very confusing.

Ps: I don't want to create a whole new apple ID as I don't want to lose everything from my old icloud.com one.

iPhone 8, iOS 13

You can change it to an alias. From the first document below, see:

"If you use an @icloud.com, @mac.com, or @me.com email address as your Apple ID, you can’t change it to a third party email address. But, you can change it to an alias of your Apple ID address. For example, if j.appleseed@icloud.com is your Apple ID and you also have j.appleseed@me.com on file in your account, you can change your Apple ID to j.appleseed@me.com"

To make the change, see the instructions below.

Change your Apple ID (Be very aware of the restrictions here.) https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667

Before changing your Apple ID using a computer, sign out of all Apple  services that use your Apple ID. If you are going to use an iPhone, iPad, or iPod, then stay signed in with your Apple ID on only that device. This instruction is taken from the above document under the heading Before you change your Apple ID.

For sign out purposes, see Where can I use my Apple ID? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202659 “This list is provided for informational purposes only and is subject to change without notice.
