can you airplay a macbook to another mac

Is it possible to airplay from one MacBook to another MacBook to extend the display from one to the other? Using the second one as a second monitor basically?

No. You cannot use another Mac as a display unless it is an iMac meeting the requirements. However, you can use Screen Sharing or Airplay Mirroring. But this can be slow, and is not the same as a second monitor.
