Iphone XR-cant hear caller unless on speaker or AirPods

I cannot hear the people I speak with in my iPhone XR (7 months old phone). They are very very low. The volume is up all the way and still no improvement. Also checked in my settings and even that is up all the way. Nothing is blocked speaker wise and no physical damage. The issue started a month back with the sound gradually passing out when now I can't hear anything. Using the speaker and/or AirPods always is not a feasible solution. Kindly suggest/help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities, and I understand the volume of the other person is low and will do what I can to help.

Try the rest of the suggestions here (steps 3 and 4): If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

Also, if it's only happening on calls, check the signal. Even if you don't see these messages, these steps can help troubleshoot that cellular connection for calls: If you see No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad
