Is there a way to Auto-Resize Columns in Finder as a default?

I have tried holding option/alt down and clicking the column 'tab' (at the bottom) & resizing by double clicking, but that doesn't stick as when I close and reopen the folder, the files are still unreadable until I expand the column again.

I have tried holding option/alt down and clicking the column 'tab' (at the bottom) & dragging wider which makes All the columns wider but not what I wanted either.

I just want to not have to resize the column every single time I open a finder window. Please help! :)

(I have also tried ExtraFinder but wondered if there was a setting I missed in preferences as a default that I wouldn't have to get an app to fix)
