To be fair it's been an issue since I got my Macbook Pro and sometimes an update fixes it and then the next update undoes it.
The play, pause and skip options on the touchbar do not work unless I'm in the music app. Every other touch bar option works. I've reset the computer, reset the PRAM and updated the touchbar controls/

You're welcome. Apparently you are signed up for a Beta program. You can stay on it or not in System Preferences > Software Update.
Touch Bar won't control Music (Catalina 10.15.5)
