Use imac as display

I am trying to connect my macbook pro (latest model) to my imac (latest model) and use my imac as a display. I connected the two with a Thunderbolt USB-C cable and then pressed Command + F2 but still doesn't work. Am I missing any steps?

It will not work, because no iMac after 2014 supports Target Display Mode.

see > Use your iMac as a display - Apple Support

Note: Target Display Mode isn’t supported on iMac models with Retina display. Only iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), and iMac (Mid 2011 to Mid 2014) support Target Display Mode.
