How to import old iMovie events and projects into iMovie 10.1.14

I upgraded to Catalina and iMovie 9.0.9 does not work anymore.

However I have on an external drive two folders named iMovie Events and iMovie Projects with all the projects and events that were created using iMove 9.0.9.

My question is: how do I import the contents of those two folders into iMove 10.1.14? I've looked high and low in these discussions but were not able to find an answer.

TIA

You don't need to copy any files anywhere. Your screen shot shows that the files are already in folders named iMovie Events and iMovie Projects. It doesn't matter that they are standard Finder folders. I looked into my iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders and they look like yours -- no special codes or temp files. The folders did not have any special properties. They do contain rcproject files that yours do not, but that shouldn't make any difference. You may never have had rcproject files anyway.

Open iMovie 10 and do a File/Update Projects and Events. That will update your iMovie 9 projects into iMovie 10 as iMovie 10 projects that can be edited. Your projects and events also will still be preserved in iMovie 9 and you can keep iMovie 9 on your Mac along with iMovie 10.

I am not running Catalina, so I am not sure whether its 64bit architecture would prevent the updating, but it's easy to try. If it doesn't work you may need to use your Time Machine backup to revert to your previous operating system to do the iMovie 9 update. Then you can re-upgrade to Catalina if you want.
