Help: Decision before purchase 2020 Macbook

Hi communities:

I will buy new Macbook sometime next week, my old 2013 Macbook Pro 15" is starting to act up, and are in process trading in. I am not able to reach to sales department to help me with decision before I could buy either new Macbook Air or Macbook pro 13". Yes I have done some research on both and it come very hard to decide which one. I am creating list of pro and cons on both and a list of what I usually and will use on Macbook. To those communities, I am asking you to help me with decisions on. Thank you!

Air - Pro:

Light, thin, easy to carry around

Latest processor

Price - i7(10 gen cpu) with 16gb ram still cheaper than 13"

Con:

Limit or slow on heavy programs ex: video editing, photo editing, etc...

Slow gaming?

poor external monitor?

13" Macbook pro - Pro:

Not lightest, but thin enough and able carry around

Latest processor i5 (10th gen cpu) with 16gb ram

Powerful for heavy programs

Gaming

Longer battery than Air (by one more hour longer)

Con:

little heavier

i5 processor (10 gen) with 16gb ram

Price about 200 more than Air

List of daily use on Macbook:

Many tabs in internet browser

Microsoft Office and iWork

Coding - Terminals, Sublime Text, Atoms

secured VPN networks

Movie/Netflix/Hulu/etc...

External monitor

Occasional use of video edit and photo editing

Travel often, hiking often, so light is good for me (my old Macbook 15" is pretty heavy)

Question or Concerns that out on internet have no answer on:

-Quality on external monitor running on 2020 Macbook Air

-Old Macbook Air run pretty hot when watching movie or Netflix, etc.... Sometimes shuts down. Will that have same issue with new Macbook Air?

-Air with i7 cpu (10 gen) with 16gb and 512ssd storage for $1600, compare with 13" i5 cpu (10 gen) with 16gb and 512gb storage for $1800. Which run better? (Out there only talk about i5... nothing talks about i7).

Anything else you want add or other idea that would help me. Much appreciated! :)

Thank you,

D

The i7 is the best choice.

Ok thanks for your input John Galt. I have decided to go ahead with MacBook Air with i7 (10th gen) and 16gb ram with 512gb storage. It just arrived last night, and I was able to set up today and so far it runs pretty nice, not as fast as my old 15" MacBook Pro 2014 (i7 with 16gb ram and 512gb storage) feel. However the lightness is more important for me right now.

So far I can share my feel difference between those two. I have started coding a little bit, website surfing, setting up mail, etc...

The new install process a lot more longer than 2014 MBP 15"

Catalina is nice but the network speed still cut in half slow compare to old MBP with Mojave

Once all set on MBA - everything runs pretty quick.

Installed sublime and setting up tingly slow at first but then afterward pretty quick. I haven't test the compiling yet

Display show small, but getting used to it quickly from 15" to 13".

True Tone color keep changing and the color become little off, annoying, had to turn it off.

Thats all... Hope this help ya all out there.

Thanks!
