El Capitan upgrade not appearing

Hello. I have an early 2009 macmini, 8 GB ram. I was (and apparently still am) running Mavericks, 10.9.5. I downloaded the El Capitan installer from Apple (it took forever, timed out three times) and ran it. It seemed to work...I got the “installation successful” message. Unfortunately, both before and after rebooting, “About this Mac” says I’m still running 10.9.5. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. It still boots fine, so it’s useable.

Try again using the directions at > How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

Also if you are trying to download the installer via Wi-Fi, it would be a good idea to connect the Mac Mini directly to your Router using an Ethernet cable.
