Unable to update Series 3 watch to watchOS 6.1.3

Hello 😊

After I updated my phone to iOS 13.4.1 I was prompted to update my watch. I was going in circles trying to update and in the end the only option available was to unpair and erase my watch.

Now when I use the watch app to set it up again it says it needs updating. I select that then it says “watchOS 5.3.6 your software is up to date” then my only options are to Exit and Reset or Continue Updating but I can’t 😔

I’ve had this watch for a couple years and have LOVED it and have been thinking of upgrading but wanted to wait for the series 6 to come out.

Really hoping that you can help me get it working for just the next few months until the Series 6 is out!!

Thanks,

Teigen

See if this will help you get it paired back to the iPhone again and allow you to start over. If your Apple Watch isn't connected or paired with your iPhone - Apple Support

Hi Chris!

Yes it’s at 100% with wifi and Bluetooth on, when setting up the watch it asks me to wear it. I imagine what should happen is it says it needs to be updated, then I’d pop it on charger then press install. I think the main issue here is that it says it’s up to date.

Ive also just tried to check for updates while it’s on the charger but it’s still coming up with “watchOS 5.3.6 your software is up to date”

Thanks 😊

This is becoming a bigger problem every day,ios13 doesn't seem to like watches with watchos5 or below,here is three proven solutions from other forum members.

Apple watch 2;

I found a friend, who was on iOS 12 and used his iPhone to pair. Before pairing it asked to upgrade the watch OS (iOS 13 didn't offer this option). After I upgraded the watchos I unpaired the watch from the ios12 phone and then was able to pair it with any iPhone running iOS 13.

1st gen apple watch;

pairing was successful on the following device (with associated OS)

to pair via bluetooth I used an iphone 7 with iOS 12, after pairing immediately accepted the watchOS update to version 4.3.2 after everything was successfully equipped with the last update, unpaired the iPhone and the Apple Watch a reset (factory settings) all this took some time but afterwards pairing on an iPhone XR with iOS13 g was a piece of cake.

Just did this with a series1. I had to pair with the original phone and update the firmware for me to pair correctly. All I did was ask to pair and the update happened on an iPhone 6.

Find a phone with ios12 on it and pair your watch to it,it will ask you to update the watch select yes,after it has updated unpair the watch from the ios12 phone and then pair it with your ios13 phone.

Now you can update to watchos6.
