Bluetooth Speaker Audio when using Macbook Pro

When I connect my Macbook Pro to a JBL Flip 3 speaker the audio sounds very poor. If I restart the Macbook then the audio will work well for a short period of time before it reverts to the poor audio. The problem is not the speaker since all other devices work perfectly when connected to the speaker.
