ipod touch not recognized by apple music

I plug my ipod touch into my iMac and it is not recognized by apple music however the iMac does see it. How can I connect it to apple music?

I found an article online that had me to into finder and mark the iPod and my iPhone as trusted. Now it shows up when I plug the into my iMac. Here is the article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202778
