love my ipad air 2 but the battery needs to be replaced cause it is not holding a charge. should i put the $ into relating battery or buy a new iPad.

That's a decision only you can make. It it was me, I personally would not invest in a device that was released now 6 years ago. Given the device is that age, it wouldn't be unlikely for it to not be able to run iPadOS 14 when it is released later this year, but that's only a guess based on the supported life of previous devices.

Thanks. I was wondering when the ios would stop updating due to hardware limitations. Sounds like it could happen in the near future.
Based on my research, it seems very likely, the next iPasOS release will not work on iPad Air 2.
