Downloading pictures

I can't import photos from my iPhone. All I get are messages - Composing layout, gathering favourites, analysing scenes, detecting duplicates and curating best photos. Help what do I do please?

How are you trying to import photos from your iPhone? What happens, when you connect the iPhone to a USB port of your Mac? Does Photos open?

You can safely ignore the messages about "Composing layout, gathering favourites, analysing scenes, detecting duplicates and curating best photos". These are background processing telling you that Photos is analysing your library to find a pleasing layout for the days view. But you can work with Photos before these background tasks have finished.

The system version "macOS 10.13" shown below your question cannot be correct, if you are seeing messages about "curating best photos". This is a new feature in Photos 5 on macOS 10.15 Catalina.

You are right. I ticked the wrong box, Not my Mac book Pro. Problem is with my iMac. The messages are virtually continuous.

Photos does open when I connect my iPhone and it shows as a device in the list on the left. Nothing appears to happen. However if I click on the name in the list on the left, I get the message to unlock my iPhone even if it is unlocked.

having said that the software is now importing the pictures as if nothing is wrong. However it has taken me about 8 hours to get to this stage? So something isn't right! Any words of wisdom gratefully received.
