can I attach a second screen for my mac to use simultaneously? Is there a Mac product or other recommendation?

Any third party external display will work, please check the external display output your iMac will support when selecting an external display, you can find that information in the System Specifications for your iMac. To learn how to connect and set up the external display please use https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202351. You will likely also need an adapter cable depending on what connection the external display you select has and what your iMac will out put.
