Popping sound on left side of headphones on new 2020 iPad Pro...

Hi,


I recently purchased a new 2020 iPad Pro 12.9” wi-fi only. (512gb’s/iPad OS13.4).


When using it for listening to music, (Apple Music), or You Tube videos I found when I stopped the playing I heard quite a medium/low-frequency ‘pop’ from the left channel of my headphones. (Bose QC3’s & QC15’s). I hear the pop using either model of headphones.

It isn't loud but very audible.

If I leave the sound off for a while the popping continues once every 20/30 seconds or so.

The popping sound cannot be heard through the built in speakers, maybe because they cannot reproduce the frequency?

I need to use the Apple USB-c to 3.5mm adapter for these headphones.

On occasions, despite the headphones being plugged in with the adapter, sound was coming through the iPad speakers and headphones at the same time!?


I took the iPad to my local iCare centre and after testing it for a couple of hours they decided the iPad was faulty so I received a new iPad.


(When iCare checked the first iPad out they upgraded to iPad OS13.5 but that introduced a constant ‘restarting’ issue so when I got the replacement iPad I kept it on iPad OS13.4).


Once the second iPad was set up the same popping sound was happening.

With that in mind, my attention turned to the Apple USB-c to 3.5mm adapter so I replaced that... The popping still happens!


I cant go back to the Apple store again as it surely cant be another faulty iPad, can it?


Does anyone have an ideas what could be the problem?

This is getting frustrating...


I have contacted Apple Support but we just go round and round in circles... reset this, reset that, restore from this, restore from that!

I have done all this several times over two different iPads... it’s a pain having to reset all my settings every time... and it has not solved the problem!


I can’t believe the popping is caused by a hardware issue having had two new iPads already?

Maybe I just have to put up with the popping sound???


Does anyone think this could actually be damaging my iPad Pro or just an idiosyncrasy I will have to live with?

Before your 14-day unconditional return expires, once again, return this iPad and get another new unit.

Bring your audio adapter with you and completely test another new iPad Pro out in the store before leaving the store with another new, but possibly faulty iPad, again.

If necessary, if problems with another new iPad in store, ask for another new iPad Pro and keep testing in store until you get one that seems fine and and fault-free.

There is no reason to deal with such issues with a brand new purchased and expensive device!


If you find fault with any other new iPad Pro units from your store, just return all iPads, ask for your all yout money back and enquire when the store will receive an another new batch of units from Apple and attempt another purchase of a new iPad Pro then.


OR


Take your returned money and purchase another new iPad Pro from some other authorised Apple resellers that may have a different run of stock that may not have any defective iPad Pro models.


There is no need to have to settle for using such an expensive tablet that is faulty is some fashion.

I wish it was that easy!


I am based in Asia (Thailand) and despite the iPad being purchased from an 'Apple Authorised Dealer' they don't recognise 'western' warranties!


This is the second iPad I had from them.

The first was showing this 'popping' issue and was returned within 3 days of its purchase. They agreed it was faulty but refused to exchange it or refund my money. They wanted to send it away for repair...I refused that and went through **** trying to get a replacement.

In the end I used the help of a lawyer. It was after that they very reluctantly agreed to replace it.

Shops here don't hold much stock so it still took several days to get another one from another dealer in another city.


The thought of going back there and doing what you suggested will probably get me arrested! Ha ha!


I think I will have to try and pursue this through Apple Support...
