Scanning, Pictures files and Photos???

Is there a good description for a photo archiving project/workflow available somewhere?

Confused about scanning to "Pictures" and then having import to "Photos". Especially since documentation from Apple suggests that images in Photos are already stored in Pictures.

Right now workflow is: save scanned images to a folder (either on the desktop or in documents), then import to Photos (although scanner wants to default to storing in "Pictures", it isn't an option that comes up when I try importing to Photos). Totally confused. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The Pictures folder is the default location for many photo-centric apps, not just Apple’s Photos. If you had other third-party editing apps, for example, they would - just like scanners - default to this location. All apps (and scanners) allow you to change the location to whatever is convenient for you, including to external drives.

Bottom line, the workflow you developed is the right one - save scans to desktop, or a folder on the desktop, then import, or drag, into the Photos.app.

Photos preferences should be set to move added images to its library file and it should be designated as System Photo Library (that’s what makes it available in Open/Save dialogs).
