when i open mail the box needs to be enlarged al of a sudden

When i open mail icon the box is very small and I need to use green dot to enlarge. This is new, it always opened full page

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

Hi Ilene.

Grab the bottom right corner & drag the desired size you want, drag the top toolbar if you need to reposition it.
