Bogus "Internet Recovery" Screen Replacing Start Up Screen

I'm getting the folder with question mark didn't know I had to reinstall OS after a system wipe thought it was automatic. Problem is Command R is no longer working it is taking me to a bogus "internet recovery" screen. I log into wifi and I get apple.com/support -1007F like it's an error message.

This is a 2012 macbook it's been the most reliable Apple product ever. Now one in three 80-dollar mice don't work. But I'd love to get this macbook running again.

Hi there,

I know it's important to keep your Mac running, and I'd like to see how I can help. As I understand it, you're seeing a -1007F error message when you try starting up in macOS Recovery. Is that right?

Have you tried starting up while holding either Command-Option-R or Command-Shift-Option-R? There are different startup combinations you can use to access macOS Recovery, so it might help to try those: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery

"Command (⌘)-R

Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac (recommended).

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

Shift-Option-⌘-R

Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available."

If those don't help, you may want to try running Apple Diagnostics next: How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac. Do you receive any alerts when you run it?

I hope that helps. Take care.
