failed to open a connection to the device (-21345) error message when trying to scan

On both a new Canon PIXMA TS5320 and an older Epson all-in-one printer, I can print wirelessly with no issues but when I try to scan a document, I get an error message "failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)". I have already reset the Printing system with no luck. Please help!

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Checked with both Canon and Epson, looking for updated drivers for scanning with Catalina?

If they have no drivers, check with the folks that make VueScan, and see if that works.
