why is my macbook pro showing X at battery icon on status bar instead of charge level?

Why is my MacBook Pro showing X mark at battery icon on status bar instead of charge level?I have tried every process to bring it in normal but it did not work.Now it functions only if I always plug the Mac to power adapter.Battery is not working.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

I would run a Diagnostic on the MacBook. Im not sure, but that X might mean that the battery is not properly connected anymore.


Use https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT202731 to run it (or press and hold "d" during startup.)

Then check the code on https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203747


From your description (having to use it pluged in) i would guess that you get PPT001 for "The battery was not detected." So you need a repair/replacement battery.
