"I cannot get my dvd to work on my mac book proI cannot figure why it suddenly is not working....."

-------

What exactly is the issue?:

  • Is it not burning the disks
  • Is it not paying the disks
  • Is the drive not seen by the macOS?
  • Or Other...

Whichever is the case:

  1. Shutdown: the Mac
  2. Unplug: the drive
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Plugin: the drive
  5. Power: on the Mac
  6. See if it is now seen

If that is of no success...

Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Ports) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Your hard drive may not be being read promptly, so resetting these, all of the ports would be configured to how they should be..
