When trying to toggle sidecar on, I get a note saying connection timed out

I have a MacBook Pro (2017, MAC OS 10.15.5) and an iPad Pro (9.7 inch, IOS 13.5.1). According to specs posted on Apple they should work together using sidecar.

Perhaps. Having adequate equipment is not the only requirement. You need proximity, iCloud, etc.
Your post’s title says “sidekick” 😭 The name is “Sidecar’.

Sidecar does not work between MacBook Pro and iPad Pro (9.7 inch)
