Older Dell monitor now not working on new Macbook Pro 2019 16"

I was running two Dell external monitors on my early 2015 13" Macbook Pro:

- P2414H via Displayport/Thunderbolt 2 adapter

- SE2717H/HX via HDMI/Thunderbolt 2 adapter

I've upgraded to a 2019 Macbook 16" Pro 8-core i9 running Catalina 10.15.5, and now only the later model SE2717H/HX works.

The older Dell P2414H recognises when I plug it into the Thunderbolt 3 port via Displayport cable (or even the old VGA using an adapter), but immediately after goes to sleep. Any software/driver fixes, or is this monitor too old now for the newer Macbook?

Thanks

Hi Brenden thanks for getting in touch. I spoke to Apple and the assistant looked up the specs of the Apple T3 (USB-C) to T2 adapter and confirmed it is not compatible with the cable. I have since bought a DisplayPort to Thunderbolt 3 single cable and this is now providing the monitor signal correctly. Worth noting. I appreciate your time though.

Hello unklebacon.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see that since upgrading your MacBook Pro, you have been experiencing issues with one of your monitors staying awake. We will be glad to assist. Try an SMC reset to see if that helps: How to reset the SMC of your Mac

If the issue persists, we would suggest contacting Dell for possible drivers and support:
